Therapy Patient Outcomes Continue to Exceed National Average
Therapy is one of many short- and long-term care patient services, including skilled nursing and memory care, that Stonerise specializes in across its 17 care centers in West Virginia. Our 300-member strong therapy team members statewide serve our communities by getting patients back to health and back to life – including getting them home as quickly – and as strongly – as possible if their health situation allows.
Superior Patient Outcomes
Over the last year, we measured our patient outcomes across our 17 care center locations, where we offer therapy services with in-house gyms. We then compared them to national averages and our patients exceeded the national norms in improvement of Mobility (walking), ADLs (“Activities for Daily Living like dressing, bathing and grooming) and Communication/Cognition and Swallowing across the board.
Put simply, this means Physical, Occupational and Speech-Language Pathology delivered by Stonerise therapists in 2021 resulted in better outcomes for our Stonerise Therapy patients than the national norms. Our patients scored higher on their outcome measures and did so in a shorter duration of time than their comparison group. Our therapy teams exceeded the national average in 2020 as well.
A Patient’s Therapy Journey
Joann, a Stonerise Rainelle patient, is a wonderful example of these therapy outcomes demonstrated in real life. Joann has been treated at Stonerise Rainelle several times in the last few years following different health events including a knee replacement surgery and most recently, a hospitalization after a fall from general weakness and chest pain.
In November 2021, we welcomed her back at Stonerise Rainelle to help get her stronger after a hospital stay. She received physical, occupational and speech therapy from Stonerise therapists and we were so thrilled to see her discharged home after 31 days, just in time for Christmas. She is a proud graduate (see picture) of our post-acute therapy once again.
“Joann and her family have entrusted the Rainelle team for her therapy needs time and time again. Joann has gone home each time with a smile on her face, able to walk out of our center with minimal to no assistance,” says Mary Caufield, Director of Rehab at Stonerise Rainelle.
Therapy for older adults is a critical part of the bigger healthcare continuum and Stonerise Network overall. We are proud to serve physician and hospital partners who have patients like Joann who want to go home but are not quite ready after a hospital stay. When it was time to discharge Joann from Stonerise Rainelle, we helped her go home with home health services to give her the best chance of continuing to get stronger and avoiding rehospitalization.
